Caste is April's Blue Ideas Book for Discussion

The Livingston Dems/Indivisible Livingston’s Blue Ideas Book Club will discuss a highly acclaimed book on our nation’s racial hierarchy at its next meeting.

Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent, by Isabel Wilkerson won the Los Angeles Time Book Prize, was named one of the best books of the year by The Washington Post, The New York Times, O: The Oprah Magazine, NPR, and many more.

Wilkerson explains how a powerful caste system exists in American society that influences people’s lives and behavior. She explores how the caste system in this country shares characteristics with India’s treatment of the untouchables and Nazi Germany’s treatment of the Jews.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at Livingston County Democratic Party headquarters, 8028 Grand River, Woodland Plaza Suite 7, Brighton, for a book discussion and a potluck.

Please bring a dish to share and your thoughts on the book!

Copies of the book are available at a discount at Two Dandelions Bookshop, 428 W. Main St., Brighton, upon mentioning the book club.
