Absentee ballots have been mailed, early voting will start Oct. 26, and Election Day itself is just days away.
It’s not enough just to vote and get others to vote. We have to make sure no one is turned away from the polls and that all legal votes are counted.
That’s why we are asking Democrats to sign up to be poll challengers. Poll challengers are really democracy defenders!
The role of Democratic poll challengers is to monitor the voting process and make sure that it is going smoothly, that poll workers are following proper procedures, and that other poll challengers are not indiscriminately challenging voters.
Problems are reported through an online tool accessed on your cell phone called LBJ (Lawyers Bound for Justice). The Michigan Democratic Party provides online training for poll challengers and assigns them to polling locations.
The training is available here. After you take the training, you will be asked to take a short quiz and sign up for shifts. Available shifts include times during the nine days of early voting starting Oct. 26 and on Election Day, Nov. 5.
If you prefer to work only in Livingston County, indicate on the google form that you are only willing to travel 10 or 25 miles to a polling location.
Remember, when we say democracy is on the line this election, we really mean it. Watch the poll challenger training and then sign up to protect the vote and democracy!
