Springtime is often spruce-up time, indoors and out.

Spring is when we are anxious to get rid of the winter blues by getting outside and picking up litter or sticks blown into our yards by winter winds.
The same is true for our roadsides.
Every year since 1990, Livingston Dems have helped the Michigan Department of Transportation tidy up the state’s roadsides after a long winter as part of the state’s Adopt-a-Highway program.
This year, you can join Livingston Dems on Sunday, April 6, for our first quarterly roadside cleanup session for the 2025 season as we clerasn up a two-mile strech of M-59 in Oceola Township.
Please meet at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of Ironwood Golf Club, 6902 E. Highland Rd., in Oceola Township, parking near the fence.
Sign up here so we know you are coming.
Since it’s the first cleanup of the season, a winter’s worth of litter will have accumulated along the roadway. Cleanup usually takes about two hours, but having more volunteers can cut that time.
Wear sturdy shoes, a hat, and sunscreen and bring work gloves. The party will provide a safety briefing, safety vest, trash bags, and pickup sticks. Jordan Genso will be in charge.
“If you are new to the party, this is a great, informal opportunity to meet other Democrats and enjoy casual conversation while getting some exercise and doing something for our community,” said Judy Daubenmier, party chair.
“Your participation means a lot. We are part of a program that has collected more than a million bags of trash since 1990. Michigan looks better because of our work and the work of some 2,900 groups that participate along with us.
“This is a simple way to make a difference.”
The rain date will be April 13.
