The holidays are nearly here and what should be a time of feasting and fun can be stressful for families worried about stretching their grocery budget. That’s why Livingston Dems have kicked off their annual drive for Gleaners Community Food Bank.
“Democrats believe that we are all in this together. When someone needs a helping hand, we are quick to respond. Our annual drive for Gleaners fits that philosophy,” said Judy Daubenmier, chair of the Livingston County Democratic Party.
The party’s drive will run through Dec. 15. Donations may be made online here where one can “shop” virtually for food items to donate. Because of Gleaners’ buying power, it can purchase food at lower costs than individuals shopping at grocery stores.
Checks made out to Gleaners Community Food Bank can also be mailed to Livingston County Democrats, 8028 Grand River, Woodland Plaza Suite 7, Brighton, MI 48114, or dropped off at the office between noon and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Nonperishable food also may be donated.
Gleaners Community Food Bank provides healthy, nutritious food to members of the community through drive-up mobile distributions and nearly 400 partners like schools, senior centers, soup kitchens, shelters, and more.
Nearly 50% of the food Gleaners provides the community comes in the form of fresh produce, dairy, and meat.
The Gleaners drive is one of several ways the local Democratic Party supports our local community. The party also raises funds for OLHSA’s Walk for Warmth to help with winter heating bills; assembles more than 50 Backpacks for Kids for the Livingston Educational Service Agency’s annual backpack drive, and cleans up a two-mile stretch of M-59 each quarter as part of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Adopt-a-Highway program.
